If you have been following the rumors surrounding Taskmaster & Akuma, you would know that they have been all but confirmed due to these leaked comic strip photos of Marvel’s Taskmaster, and art work of Akuma who hails from team Capcom. We have their reveal and gameplay videos below as well as an analysis of their movesets. Sound off in the comments section and tell us what you think!
Taskmaster Reveal
Moveset Analysis:
- Taskmaster is what you will call a “copier.” His special abilities allow him to copy the physical attributes of others. He CANNOT copy powers (a la Rogue circa 90′s) or shapeshift, but he makes use of a gun, sword, bow, and shield.
- He has a move called “Mighty Swing”, presumably copied from Spiderman (Web Swing).
- He also has a move where he rushes down his opponent with his shield (a la Captain America’s Charging Star).
- Taskmaster can combo in & out of his “Mighty Swing.”
- He has a move called “Aim of Hawkeye” (which may suggest Hawkeye as a potential candidate for DLC? Hmmmm…)
- His “Aim of Hawkeye” is also a Level 1 Hyper and can be done in the air (which is also OTG).
- All of his throws seem to end with a bullet
- He can counter projectiles as well as physical attacks
- Counter projectiles (0:35)
- Counter physical attacks (0:41)
- Taskmaster’s counter is also a Level 1 Hyper (a la Wesker) (0:45)
Akuma Reveal
Moveset Analysis:
- Akuma’s attacks remain highlighted by purple flames
- His Tenma Gou Zankuu (barrage of fireballs) Level 1 Hyper can now be done on the ground (0:34) and is still OTG when executed in the air (see gameplay videos below)
- His Messatsu Gou Shoryu Level 1 Hyper returns (0:46)
- His Messa Gou Hadou (similar to Ryu’s Shinku Haduken) Level 1 Hyper can now be done in the air (0:55) and is also OTG. However, it doesn’t seem like you can aim it like Ryu’s
- Shun Goku Satsu (aka “Raging Demon”) makes it’s triumphant return as his Level 3 Hyper and can pass through other Hypers… sick! (1:00)
- No evidence of his Messatsu Gou Rasen (upward whirlwind looking spinning kick hyper)
- At 0:51 we get to see a new level (presumably the last stage) which takes place on the moon or some planet, and what appears to be a completely metallic Dr. Doom (sub boss maybe?) Hmmmmm…
