As most of you Little Big Planet 2 (LBP2) fans know, the release date for this game, the 18th of January, is right around the corner. LBP2 will pack a lot of new features, add ons, and perks that will stretch the player’s creativity beyond limits. It is a direct sequel to the critically acclaimed predecessor Little Big Planet, and the third game to follow the PSP version. It is again exclusively on PS3. There is one review, from the Playstation Official Magazine in the UK, which was a 10/10. Seeing that Little Big Planet was an extremely successful game, and a game that I REALLY enjoy playing with my little cousins, I can only expect the ratings to be as awesome as the game and, of course, move units for Sony.
Here is the summary from the official LBP2 website:
Players continue Sackboy’s journey after the events of the first game and the portable version are brought to an end. An inter-dimensional vacuum cleaner appears over the skies of LittleBigPlanet and begins to suck up its inhabitants, including Sackboy. Larry Da Vinci, the leader of a semi-secret semi-organised group known as “The Alliance”, comes to Sackboy’s rescue saving him from what they call “The Negativitron.” The organisation is dedicated to battling with “The Negativitron” and defeating it before it destroys Craftworld.
The 2.5D feel of the game will still be applied from the previous game, but now players will have more options available. There will now be racing, puzzle and role playing games which will give players additional gaming experiences and allow creators to tap into a deeper look at the life of a game developer. A new tool to assist in gameplay creation is the “controllinator” (formerly the “direct control seat”). This allows players to assign specific actions, such as button presses or Sixaxis motion control, to specific aspects of their gameplay design. Enemy creation has also been improved as players can now create “Sackbots”, which are non-player characters whose Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be controlled by the level creator and have their AI be copied and pasted between multiple Sackbots. Sackbot options include determining weak points as well as programming routines for the AI to follow. Sackbots can be customized using costumes and decorations in the same way as Sackboys/ Sackgirls.
The Playstation Move will also be an added feature to control the sackboy, which will give it a Wii-esque feel to it, which families could enjoy, especially after giving him/her a PS3 for christmas.
All downloadable content from the first game will be usable in this sequel, as will most user made levels from LittleBigPlanet.
I expect great great things from LBP2 in the upcoming weeks of its release, and I will be doing a review of the game within the same week.
Little Big Planet 2 will be released on January 18, 2011 as a Playstation 3 exclusive developed by Media Molecule and published by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
