Being a fan of gaming and a fan of comics has gotten easier over the years, especially when great comic book characters end up in videogames and great videogame characters end up in comics. Sometimes the quality may vary for each respective product, but nevertheless, it is a mutually beneficial relationship between the two hobbies.
Here at VGLounge.com, most of us are huge fans of the world of comics. So much so, that many of our staff meetings must dedicate at least an hour to sidetrack into a comics related debate. Best Marvel movie of all time? The merits of Spider-man vs. the merits of Iceman? Those topics were just the tip of the iceberg for where some of our opinions have been established.
As many of you are aware, a film on the DC Comics character known as the Green Lantern was released this summer and while the film was borderline abhorrent to anyone seeking a cohesive and faithful live-action Green Lantern experience, a strong interest in the mythos of the franchise began to stir around the internet.
After being inspired by this article where the superstars of the WWE were broken down into the various Lantern Corps, I began thinking of what the videogame universe’s equivalent would look like.
So this week will be special as exclusively on VGLounge.com, we will run a 7-day feature spotlighting iconic and obscure videogame characters and where they will fit in each Lantern corps. Each corps will discuss only 5 members and be revealed in the famous: ROY G BIV order. This means that beginning tomorrow, the “Red Lantern Corps of Gaming” will be featured at 12pm, Orange Lanterns on Tuesday and so on. Just to get this out of the way, we will not do a corps for the two newest lanterns in comics, the black and white lanterns.
Some of you reading this may be wondering:
“Who or what are these lantern corps and why should I care?” Why I am glad that you asked. Simply look below to see the emotions tied to each color and see if you can predict where some of your favorite gaming characters may end up:
Orange Lanterns/Avarice (Greed)
Yellow Lanterns (Sinestro Corps)/Fear
Indigo Lanterns (Indigo Tribe)/Compassion
Violet Lanterns (Star Sapphires)/Love
Be sure to let us know who your favorites are!
This project would not have been possible without the talents of VGLounge’s own DruSoBK and KahliFlower. Thank you!

I love learning about the different stories of each lantern corps…it’s like a mini obsession.
Where are the white and black rings?
Ey, that’s a really cool idea. I hadn’t seen that WWE article until you posted it but that was pretty cool. Even though I didn’t comment on the Rage post, I thought that was heated. Wasn’t too sure about Tira cause I didn’t really read her backstory. I just knew she was following the orders given to her by Soul Edge and wasn’t sure if that alone could place her in the Rage category. Anyways I’ma try and drop one character from each Corps as a prediction for the other 6 days.
Orange Lanterns/Avarice (Greed) – Dr. Wily (Mega Man series)
Yellow Lanterns (Sinestro Corps)/Fear – Sin (FFX)
Green Lanterns/Will Power – Solid Snake (Metal Gear Series)/ Master Chief (Halo series), had to drop two for that
Blue Lanterns/Hope – Sora (Kingdom Hearts)
Indigo Lanterns (Indigo Tribe)/Compassion – Yuna (FFX)
Violet Lanterns (Star Sapphires)/Love – Amy Rose (Sonic the Hedgehog series)
Uncle Webba, these are some solid choices. I gotta know how you would have Dr. Wily fit in for Greed.
I must’ve read the WWE Lantern Corps article about 3 times. Lol. I really fell in love with the idea and figured that the icons of gaming deserved to get a Lantern corps of their own. Appreciate the props bro.
You know I initially skipped Avarice because I really couldn’t think of any really greedy VG characters so I just went with the next best thing in envy. I know Wily wants to be everything Dr. Light has become, mainly acknowledged for his success in robotics and his aid in creating the Robot Masters. So he does what every jealous mad scientist does: tries to take over the world! So I figured that yearning to be credited for these advanced robots creates this lust for power that would eventually lead to all humanoid robots (including Rock) under his control and the world having no choice but to be made aware that he is the greatest scientific mind in existence…
assuming he ever succeeded
