People have talked about Mario and Sonic going against one another since the old SNES and Genesis war. But what about the sidekicks? Who is the best wingman? Is it everyone’s favorite two-tailed fox, Miles “Tails” Prower or the under appreciated brother, Luigi? I’m not going to ask who your favorite character out of the two is but the question is who will win in a fight? Who has the advantage in speed? strength? fighting ability? Let’s find out:
Miles “Tails” Prower
Tails is Sonic’s right hand man (fox? eh, you get it). Keeping up with the fasting thing alive isn’t easy and Tails does a pretty good job so his speed can’t be underestimated. Tails is a pilot but is capable of flying on his own– no plane necessary. Tails only has one game worth of fighting experience but he was able to spin dash like Sonic and fly into opponents. In games where Tails was mortal, he was completely vulnerable to instant death without holding any rings. Tails has been in a number of games as a helper, consultant and the brains that Sonic needs to deal with Eggman.
Luigi
Luigi isn’t seen as the most courageous sidekick in the video game world but when he needs to throw down he can get the job done. 
Luigi may not be as fast as Tails but he definitely wins in the jumping department. In the games that distinguish Mario and Luigi, Luigi has almost always been able to out jump his famous leaping brother. Luigi’s appeared in three dedicated fighting games and he’s had admirable knockout power in each appearance. In his platforming days Luigi is vulnerable whenever he doesn’t have the protection of a mushroom or another item. Luigi may not be able to fly or is as intelligent as Tails but “the green machine” has the experience in the fighting arena to do damage.
So who wins? The flying fox or the famous overshadowed sibling? I have my opinion about this one but I’ll keep that to myself for now.

I’m biased but I go with Luigi all day. Tails does have the speed advantage but if both have access to power ups from their respective games, Luigi owns horribly. If not, Tails might get the win but I question whether he has the power to take Luigi down.
